Living in Apollo Beach
Apollo Beach is a vibrant waterfront community, located in Hillsborough County in Tampa, FL. It features over 50 miles of interconnected canals that lead to Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and pass under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Many of Tampa’s most spectacular waterfront homes sit along the waters’ edge.
Residents can boat, fish, and participate in a variety of other water activities throughout the year. Or they can simply relax on the gorgeous beaches throughout the area or enjoy the 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones.
Some say the beach community, which was originally called Tampa Beach and then LaVida Beach, received it’s current name from the Roman and Greek god of the Sun, Apollo. Others say the area was named after the space program.
No matter which tale you believe, there’s no doubt the area has taken off in the last 30 years, growing from 1,000 residents to over 14,000. Today Apollo Beach has about 6,000 households. Around 27% of the residents are under eighteen, while more than 63% of the residents are married.
